The fruits of pear trees contain microelements, vitamins, tanning compounds, various enzymes, pectin and organic acids necessary for a person. Therefore, breeders are developing new varieties of fruit with improved performance.
Hybrid history
Pear Autumn Yakovleva obtained by mixing hybrids Daughter Blankova and Bergamote Esperen. The work was carried out by a group of scientists from GNU VNIIG and SPR Michurin, P.N. Yakovlev was appointed head.
In 1974 this species was included in the State Register. The variety is widespread throughout Central Russia and in countries with a temperate continental climate, where there are no severe frosts in winter (Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia). With the help of this hybrid, several elite fruit forms with increased winter hardiness and immunity to fungal infections have been created.
Pear technical data
Description of pear Autumn Yakovleva:
- The height of the tree ranges from 13-15 to 18 m. The crown has a rounded shape.
- There are a lot of leaves on the branches. They have a wedge-shaped base, a slight bulge. There are short sawtooth notches along the edges of the plate.
- Pear hybrid Autumn Yakovleva grows rapidly, releasing numerous shoots. Due to the high density of the crown, constant pruning is required.
- The development of the fruits of this variety occurs on the stem ringlets and twigs.
- Shoots on trees are wide, curved and rather thick. Painted brown. A small number of lentils are located on them.
Characteristics of the hybrid fruit:
- They are shaped like a classic pear. During the ripening period, the fruits acquire an emerald color. A cover blush appears on the side facing the sun.
- The peduncle is of medium size. A cup of pears of this variety is open type. The saucer is small in size, with small ribs. The heart is shaped like an egg. All varieties of Osenny Yakovlev have closed chambers, where the seeds are colored brown.
- The weight of each fruit ranges from 0.12 to 0.14 kg. Some gardeners have managed to get pears weighing up to 0.250 kg. Experiments on growing a hybrid in Siberia led to the growth of fruits weighing from 80 to 100 g.
Fruiting of the Osennyaya Yakovleva variety begins from the 5th year of the development of the seedling. The crop is harvested after August 15-20, but most often this happens in the fall. The average weight of fruits removed from one tree ranges from 30-35 kg. The fruits can be transported over medium distances. The variety partially pollinates itself, but breeders recommend using pollinators planted nearby, for example, Lada or Avgustovskaya pears, for fertilization.
The tree is frost-resistant, withstands cold from -25-28 ° C to -30-32 ° C. But in severe frosts, it is recommended to protect the plantings by fumigation (smoke), covering the plants with film or warm materials.
The variety also tolerates dry, sultry summers. Hybrid scab damage is possible. They use fresh fruits, make jams and preserves from them. If you store fruits in a cool place, then the duration of their use increases to 70-75 days.
Planting pears
Planting seedlings is recommended in late autumn or early spring. Loamy soils with low acidity are suitable for a hybrid. It is better to plant cuttings on small slopes where groundwater is not suitable.
When buying, choose trees that have a smooth bark without cracks, and have good skeletal branches.The sprout must be at least 80 cm long and 2-3 years old. It is necessary to select cuttings with roots elongated by 10-20 cm.
For planting, a hole is dug about 0.8 m deep, 0.7-1.0 m in diameter. Peat, manure (chicken droppings can also be used), river sand, turf are placed in it. A stake is placed in the center of the hole, on which the plant will lean during growth. Spread the roots of the seedling, insert it into the hole, cover it with earth.
Then, a circular ditch with a shaft up to 40 cm high is made around the planted cutting. 20 to 30 liters of water are poured into the hole under the seedling.
Further care
Caring for the Osennyaya Yakovleva variety means timely crown pruning, watering, fertilizing, spraying, pest and disease control. All activities need to be carried out from the first year of planting the cuttings.
Pruning begins in March (if the seedling is installed on the site in the fall). Old branches are removed, and other shoots are shortened by 1/3. This procedure limits the growth of the tree.
The crown is pruned to stimulate the formation of new buds and fruit ovaries.
Moreover, newly developed shoots can bear fruit, increasing the yield of the pear. The Osennyaya Yakovleva variety provides fruit production even on mints with thin stems. Pruning allows you to eliminate excess crown density.
The trees are watered regularly. To do this, once a week, 3-4 buckets of water are poured into the root grooves. If the summer is hot and sultry, then increase the amount of watering (2-3 times). The last time irrigation is carried out in late autumn, before the onset of cold weather.
Top dressing of pears of the Osennyaya Yakovleva variety is carried out in mid-May. The best fertilizer for this variety is urea, although potassium nitrate can be used. Other substances are also used, for example, superphosphate and mixtures containing trace elements necessary for trees.
If the plants are already adults, then a tinning procedure is used to protect them. During this operation, the gardener weeds all the weeds in the trunk circle, and then feeds the seedling with nitrogen fertilizer. After such treatment, the soil indicators improve (the process of soil drying by weeds stops).
If the gardener noticed an excess of nitrogen in the ground, then you need to sow green manure. The substance will decompose over the summer and autumn periods, and then give the pear the necessary nutrients.
The Osennyaya Yakovleva variety has an average resistance to fungal infections and garden parasites, therefore, preventive measures are required.
In the last week of April, several spraying sessions are recommended. The first time the procedure is carried out during the budding of the hybrid. This helps protect against fungal infections and some garden parasites. Then the trees are processed after full bud formation. For this, special preparations are suitable, for example, inta-vir, fury, strobe.
In mid-September, you need to whitewash the trunks to protect against various diseases. It is recommended to paint over exposed parts of trees with iron lead.
Most often, the pear is affected by scab. If fruits show symptoms of this disease, they are buried in the ground or destroyed. All diseased leaves are removed and burned, after taking them out of the site.
To protect against scab, it is recommended to completely clean the trees to healthy areas of wood in the fall, and then whitewash. Dig up the soil around the plant. This allows the fungus to be driven to a depth where it becomes practically harmless for the pear tree.
In order to prevent scab from developing, the seedlings must be sprayed with mustard solution. For its manufacture, use dry powder (50-70 g), diluted in 8-10 liters of warm water. The solution is mixed well, and then the soil is sprayed with the resulting medicine in the near-trunk part of the tree. The procedure should be carried out after rain. The best period for such processing of pears of the Osennyaya Yakovleva variety is considered the end of spring or the beginning of summer.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
The advantages of the Autumn Yakovleva hybrid are:
- pleasant taste, good appearance;
- high winter hardiness;
- ability to tolerate drought;
- high productivity.
The disadvantages of this variety are as follows:
- fruits are often affected by scab;
- trees are large, which causes problems with harvesting;
- for pears growing in Central Russia and Kazakhstan, complete protection from severe frosts is required;
- gardeners note the late fruiting of the variety.
Anyone can grow a pear. But in order to get a good result, you need to accurately follow all the recommendations of the breeders and carry out agrotechnical measures on time. Crown pruning and frequent watering of pear trees are required, not only in summer.
