It is actively grown in the Central and North-West regions of Russia, as well as in the Middle Volga region. Fruits are consumed fresh, frozen and dried, as well as compotes, jelly and jam are prepared from them.
Pear grade Chizhovskaya: its full characteristics
The description of the Chizhovskaya pear variety says that the variety was entered in the Russian state register in 1993. It is grown on an industrial scale and in dachas in the Vladimir, Moscow and Samara regions. Characteristic features of the variety: abundant fruiting, the crop can be harvested at the end of summer.
In cultivation, the fruit tree is unpretentious, has good indicators of frost resistance, does not require special care. The variety was bred by the domestic breeder S. T. Chizhov by crossing two varieties - Lesnaya Krasavitsa and Olga.
The culture is medium-sized, the height of an adult tree reaches no more than 2.5 m. Young trees have a pyramidal or cone-shaped crown. The branches are covered with small green leaves. The tree trunk is painted in gray tones, the branches are lighter. Pears are formed on the ringlets.
The bark on the shoots is brown-red, on which lentils form in a chaotic manner. They are characterized by medium thickness and length, as well as a slightly curved shape.
Leaves are oval-elongated without a fleecy cover. Average thickness, veins are visible along the line. The flowers are white, cupped in shape, exuding a delicate and pleasant aroma. The tree begins to bloom in May.
Characteristic features of the fruit:
- Pears are not characterized by large sizes, as a rule, the weight does not exceed 130 g.
- Standard pear-shaped or obovate.
- The surface of the fruit is smooth, dull and even.
- The flesh has an oily texture, medium juiciness, and light yellow color.
- Excellent taste with a honey flavor.
The variety belongs to the hybrid mid-season species that ripen in late summer or autumn. It is self-fertile, that is, the fruits are formed by cross-pollination. To ensure a large and high-quality harvest, certain pollinating varieties are planted next to the pear, for example, Lada, Rogneda, Severyanka. They are planted at a distance of no closer than 4-6 m.
Agricultural rules
In the description of Chizhevsky's pear there are no special requirements for growing this variety. Before you start planting, you need to choose the right place. This variety loves sunny areas with loose soil and a sufficient concentration of nutrients, as well as that groundwater is located far from the surface of the earth.
The size of the hole should be at least 60x60x80 cm. If the soil in the summer cottage is not suitable, it is advisable to increase the size of the hole by 20-30 cm. If the soil is clay, then drainage will be required for the full development of the tree. It is made from fine gravel, gravel or sand. The layer thickness can vary from 10 to 15 cm.
For planting, it is recommended to use seedlings from 1 to 3 years old. The younger the plant, the faster it adapts and adapts to new conditions. Immediately before planting, the root system is recommended to be treated with a growth stimulator. To do this, the roots are soaked for 3-12 hours. In addition, they must be carefully examined for rot.
After planting, the land around the seedling is watered and mulched abundantly so that moisture remains in the soil longer. Sawdust, wood chips, husks and peat are suitable for these purposes.
During the first 3-4 years after planting, young trees need constant watering. In this case, it is necessary that the soil be moistened to the entire depth of the root system. A young tree needs sun and water to grow, then watering can be reduced to 1 time per month. Mature trees need watering no more than 3-7 times during the entire growing season: before flowering and during the formation of fruits, as well as with the onset of autumn. After each watering, the soil should be loosened to a depth of no more than 10-15 cm so as not to damage the root system.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Grusha Chizhovskaya has a lot of advantages that more than cover the short list of disadvantages. Experienced gardeners include the pluses of the variety:
- The plant can be grown in northern regions due to its excellent resistance to sudden temperature changes.
- An adult tree can withstand temperatures as low as -30 ° C, and fruits up to -3 ° C.
- Ripe pears practically do not crumble, which greatly facilitates the harvesting process.
- The fruit tree bears fruit abundantly. Subject to the rules of planting and further care from one tree, it will be possible to collect up to 55 kg of fruits.
- Pears can be stored for a long time (3 to 5 months).
- Excellent taste, juicy and sweet pulp.
- The fruit tree begins to bear fruit 3 years after planting.
The pear variety described above is somewhat better and worse than other varieties. One thing is clear that it is great for the northern regions, where it is not so easy to grow any fruit tree at all!
