Iyulskoe Chernenko is an early ripe apple variety that was bred by crossing Papirovka and Anis Alyi varieties. Crossbreeding was carried out by Soviet breeders at the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute. Michurin. The variety took all the best from its parents: excellent winter hardiness, abundance of fruiting and an attractive appearance. It is intended for cultivation in the Central and Middle Volga region of Russia. Chernenko's apple tree was added to the State Register in 1965.
Apple-tree July Chernenko: description of the variety and its characteristics
The tree is vigorous, its height can reach 5 m. The crown of a young tree is characterized by an oval rare shape. As for an adult tree, its crown is oval-conical, dense and spreading (it can reach 6 m in diameter). The branches of the fruit tree are slightly raised up. Shoots are strongly pubescent, have short internodes.
The foliage is large, oblong, deep green color. The petioles are not strongly colored, pubescent.
The inflorescences are white in color, exude a pleasant subtle aroma. The summer variety blooms in late May - early June.
Apples, as a rule, are of medium size, the weight of each fruit can vary from 120 to 180 g. Slightly flattened round-conical shape. Some fruits have a seam, this feature is characteristic of the Papirovka variety, which took part in the crossing. The main color of apples is light green, an integumentary crimson color with stripes of more saturated tones. There is a thin but dense waxy coating, hardly noticeable. The peduncle is short. The pulp is crispy and moderately dense, has a rich aroma and wine-sweet taste.
The tree begins to bear fruit 4-5 years after planting. In the early years, fruiting is regular and abundant, later pauses begin. The harvest can already be harvested in late July - early August. Ripe fruits do not stick to the tree, they crumble. Ripening of apples is non-simultaneous, which is an advantage for many gardeners (time allows to process the harvested crop). An adult tree, under favorable climatic conditions and adherence to the rules of agricultural technology, can yield up to 80 kg of apples.
The harvested ripe fruits can be stored in the refrigerator for 7-10 days, after which they begin to lose their shape and disappear. Another advantage of the fruits is their versatility. They can be eaten fresh, added to baked goods and made into juice.
Agricultural technology of cultivation
The key to a strong, healthy and rapidly developing tree is compliance with all the rules for planting a seedling. Otherwise, the desired results will not be achieved.
First of all, you need to decide on the place where the fruit tree will grow. Chernenko's apple tree is unpretentious in choosing a place. But these trees are recommended to be planted in groups of 3. Plant at intervals of at least 4-5 m from each other.
The most optimal time for disembarkation is late September - mid-October.
It is recommended to prepare the pit for the upcoming disembarkation several weeks in advance. The hole must be at least 0.6 m deep and 1 m wide.
The soil in the hole must be fertilized and loosened. When planting, it is important to always observe the root collar, it should be directed to the south and located above the ground. After planting, the earth is compacted and the plant is poured abundantly with water, due to which the soil will envelop the root system more abundantly.
Apple tree care
With the onset of spring, it is necessary to carefully remove lichens and mosses from the trunk, frozen, non-fruiting, dry and damaged branches. Pruning is carried out with sharp and clean tools, after the procedure, the cut sites are carefully processed with garden varnish.
As a rule, all whitewash is washed off during the winter, therefore it is recommended to re-cover the trunks with lime. To whitewash adult apple trees, you will need 2 liters of clean water, 300 g of lime and 2 tbsp. spoons of stationery glue. For young trees, it is preferable to use chalk rather than lime.
If the seedling was planted recently, then at least 4-5 buckets of water should be poured under it, repeat the procedure at least 4 times per season. An adult tree is watered no more than 3 times, 20 liters of water will be enough. If there is a drought, then the amount of watering should be increased.
Diseases and pests
The disadvantages of this variety include poor disease resistance. The most dangerous diseases for the Chernenko apple tree:
- Powdery mildew. To prevent development, you need to follow all the rules of care and irrigate the tree with a home preparation.
- Cytosporosis. To combat this ailment, it is recommended to use chemicals that can be purchased at a specialized store or on the market.
- Scab. To treat this pathology, a drug called topaz is used.
- Bacterial burn. The cause of the development of the disease is improper tree care. To cure a plant, you need to eliminate the source of the infection and disinfect the tree.
- Fruit rot, unfortunately, is not treatable, so the affected fruit must be collected and burned immediately.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Apple-tree Iyulskoe Chernenko has a large number of advantages, thanks to which the fruit tree is in demand among gardeners. Here are some of them:
- excellent indicators of frost resistance, which were transferred to the variety from its "parents";
- presentation, attractive bright cherry color of fruits;
- early ripening period (the crop can be harvested in mid-July);
- early maturity. For the first time, fruit trees begin to bear fruit after 3-5 years after planting a seedling.
There are not so many disadvantages, but, unfortunately, they are still there:
- the variety has poor scab resistance;
- fruits ripen not at the same time.
It is up to each gardener to choose this type of apple tree for planting or not. In any case, you need to weigh all the pros and cons described in the article above, and only then go for the seedlings.
