Zozulya's cucumber is familiar to many gardeners. These tender green vegetables are delicious! This variety is very easy to cultivate and does not require extra effort for growing and harvesting. Crispy, almost even, medium-sized Zozul cucumbers were bred at Vitaly Edelstein's vegetable experimental station more than forty years ago and immediately found popular love.

Characteristic

Cucumber Zozulenok is a bee-pollinated hybrid. Female flowers predominate, so the variety is considered parthenocarpic (self-pollinated). Has gained well-deserved popularity due to its high yield and unpretentious care. This author's hybrid is ideal both for cultivation in greenhouse and indoor conditions, and for planting in the open field. If the goal is to try the first zelents in a month and a half after planting, the cucumber variety Zozulenok (Zozulya) is the right choice, this hybrid is distinguished by its early maturity.

Additional Information. Early fruits reach 20 cm in length, and their weight varies within 300 grams. Despite the size, the skin of this variety is thin, the pulp is dense, with barely noticeable seeds, the taste is soft and rich.

This variety does not taste bitter and pleases with its delicate taste. Early zelentsy have a cylindrical shape, the fruits themselves are slightly lumpy, dark green in color, exclusively marketable. Up to 20 kg of fruit can be harvested from one square meter of land.

The height of the bush is average, so in greenhouses there is a need to tie lashes. This variety is rich in large, bright foliage that pleases the eye, and its ovaries are distinguished by bundle formation.

Sowing preparation

First you need to sort the seeds. Remove deformed and darkened ones, soak in water and remove those that float to the surface. They won't come up. Then the seeds can be soaked in a special solution that stimulates growth, for example, in Epin's solution. This will significantly increase their germination capacity.

Note! In specialized stores, you can buy a ready-made solution or seeds already saturated with a growth activator.

You can prepare a nutrient solution yourself by mixing a spoonful of nitroammophoska and a spoonful of ash, and then pouring the resulting mixture with 1 liter of water and leaving the seeds to infuse in the solution for 3-6 hours. For disinfection, they need to be soaked in a light manganese solution, this will destroy all pathogenic flora.

Perhaps one of the main advantages of F1 Zozulenok cucumber is its ease of cultivation, so this variety is perfect for both experienced gardeners and beginners. This variety does not need to be warmed up before planting.

You can grow greens both in a greenhouse and in the open field. This variety does not require insect pollination. Planting in greenhouse conditions is possible in the second half of spring, depending on the greenhouse microclimate.

Important: the optimum temperature for planting is 21-25 degrees Celsius.

The Zozulya cucumber variety grows well in the open field. This does not affect the quality or taste of the fruit. The variety copes well with temperature fluctuations so that the harvest will not be affected. However, this does not mean at all that these cucumbers grow in the northern regions. The yield will be better if green plants are planted in the southern part of the country.

This can be done in two ways:

  • plant seeds ready for planting directly into the ground;
  • pre-prepare them for sowing, germinating initially in room conditions. This method, called seedling, promotes more abundant vegetation.

It is convenient to plant seeds for seedlings in special peat tablets, which are then placed in plastic cups and watered abundantly with water. After the contents have softened, the grain is deepened by 1.5 centimeters and covered with a second glass on top, thereby creating the illusion of greenhouse conditions.

Attention! With this method of germination, seedlings are placed in the ground together with a peat pellet.

This method is convenient, since there is no need to dive, and when transplanted into the ground, the fragile root system of zelents is not damaged.

Landing

Before planting seedlings or seeds in the ground, it is worth waiting for the onset of stable heat. In the middle lane, the best month for planting is May. By this time, there should already be 3-4 real leaves on the seedlings.

Important! Organic fertilizers must first be added to the soil and moistened well.

  • Planting seeds. First, you need to make a pair of grooves about 60 cm apart at the site of the proposed sowing. It is recommended to plant seeds at a distance of the palm of your hand, 1.5 centimeters deep into the ground in a checkerboard pattern. You can apply 2-3 seeds in one hole, and then choose the strongest and remove non-viable shoots.
  • Planting seedlings. Plant seedlings together with peat cups in a checkerboard pattern, observing a distance of 30-50 cm.

After planting, it is advisable to cover the bed with a non-woven material or plastic glasses to create a favorable microclimate. It will help the sprouts to take root in a new place.

Care

Loosening is required during the growing season. This must be done very carefully: the fragile root system is located close to the surface.

Further care, up to harvesting the first harvest, consists in abundant moisture in the soil and removal of weeds. This variety is watered several times a week with water settled in the sun.

Important! You should not water the zelents at the very root, the drip irrigation system will be the best way out of the situation, especially if the variety is grown in greenhouse conditions.

Reduce watering in rainy weather. However, when forming ovaries, you need to water the plant at least once every three days. For the best effect, you can fertilize the earth with urea in the second week after planting.

After 5-6 weeks, the first crop can be harvested. During this period, Zozulya cucumbers are harvested from the garden in a day - this is such a productive variety. Harvesting only contributes to the development and self-regulation of ovaries, and this further increases the yield.

note: Another exceptional feature of Zelentsov is limited or no lateral branching. At the same time, the need for periodic pinching and pinching is significantly reduced.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros of a hybrid:

  • Early ripening;
  • development of ovaries without pollination by bees, which allows for early harvests, as in indoor breeding;
  • delicate taste without bitterness;
  • high productivity. From one square meter on average up to 20 kg;
  • early maturity. The first fruits can be harvested within a month and a half after disembarkation;
  • resistance to viruses, root rot, olive spot;
  • excellent presentation;
  • limited lateral branching, so there is no need for frequent or periodic pinching;
  • frost-resistant, easily adapt to temperature changes.

This variety has practically no disadvantages, except that they are mainly consumed fresh. They are not intended for pickling and pickling.

The disadvantages, albeit insignificant, can also be attributed to the impossibility of reproduction by the obtained seeds, this is a feature of all hybrid varieties.

After all, cucumber is one of the healthiest vegetables that are in demand regardless of the season.Thanks to their presentation, you can both enjoy the preparation of various dishes from this vegetable at home, and grow them for further sale.
