Cucumber Nezhinsky is also known under the name Little Russian. The reason is that it was created in the city of Nizhyn in Ukraine. Later this variety became the basis for the development of a number of hybrids.

Characteristics and description of the Nezhinsky cucumber variety

Cucumber Nezhinsky belongs to the mid-season. Fruits appear on it 45 to 55 days after planting.

This variety has very long lashes, their size can reach one and a half to two meters. The stem is highly branched and forms long internodes.

Zelentsy:

  • have the shape of an elongated egg;
  • painted in dark green, on which light stripes stand out;
  • the surface is replete with large tubercles;
  • their length is up to 12 centimeters, in most cases the harvest of this variety is removed when the fruits reach 8-10 centimeters;
  • the mass of one green tea is 80-100 g.

The cucumber is characterized by an excellent spicy taste, it has no bitterness. The pulp is tender, has a pleasant aroma.

Growing cucumber varieties Nezhinsky

The areas on which the Nezhinsky cucumber grows must be alternated. The site should be given at least a year's rest from the crop, although it is safer to set the site up for that crop two years after it was last grown here.

It is required to correctly choose a new site, taking into account what crops grew there earlier. A good solution would be to grow cucumbers after:

  • tomatoes;
  • eggplant;
  • potatoes;
  • peas and beans;
  • cauliflower.

Cucumbers themselves will be an ideal predecessor for them, which will increase the yield of these crops.

You should not plant these plants in the beds where they grew in front of them:

  • watermelons and melons (melons and gourds);
  • zucchini, squash and pumpkin.

Cucumbers of this variety can be grown both by planting seeds directly into the ground, and by seedling. It is allowed that the beds are both open and under the film, if there is a danger of frost in this area.

Growing cucumber Nezhinsky

Also an acceptable option is to place them in a greenhouse or greenhouse.

Important! Nezhinsky is pollinated by bees, the greenhouses must be kept open, otherwise the insects will not be able to fulfill their function.

It is recommended to plant this variety of cucumbers in an area where the lighting is stable and the soil is moist. At the same time, due to the characteristic endurance of this variety, it is also allowed to place it on a garden bed in a shaded or arid zone. This will lead to a decrease in the duration of fruiting, but the plants will yield a crop.

Seeds should be planted after night frosts leave. It is often mid-May, but if at this time the temperature is not yet stable at 15-20 ° C, planting should be postponed until the end of the month.

The beds on which it is planned to grow Nezhinsky should be dug up the previous fall, organic fertilizers should be applied:

  • if the soil is loamy, it makes sense to feed the land a month before planting with manure;
  • humus is placed in heavy clay soil, otherwise the plant will have problems with root development.

Before planting, they dig up the garden bed and remove the weeds. The seeds themselves are pretreated with a solution of potassium permanganate, and are also soaked in a wet cloth for a day. They are immersed in the ground to a depth of 2.5 centimeters.

Important! The distance between the holes in a row is at least 30 cm, and the rows of crops should be separated by row spacings 50-60 cm wide.

If cucumber seedlings are grown, then each seed is assigned its own container, which is filled with a mixture of soil, peat and sand. The optimal duration of seedlings maintenance before transferring to an open bed is a month. All this time, it needs to be well lit, otherwise the lashes will stretch.

Seedling

The first three weeks the seedlings are kept warm, and during the last they are hardened, first they are taken out into the air during the day, and the very last days - at night. Watering is required in moderation.

Seedling care is carried out according to the following rules:

  • watering every two days, preferably in the evening. Water must be poured under the roots of the plant, but not on the leaves, otherwise they will rot and may get burned;
  • if the weather is dry, water it daily. On the contrary, in rainy weather, watering is suspended;
  • when the plant is watered, it is huddled, loosening the ground in such a way as not to damage the delicate roots of cucumbers that are close to the ground. After completing the procedure, they should be completely covered with earth;

Planting should be thinned out, leaving only the strongest shoots. Frequent planting of Nezhinsky will not lead to an increase in yield, since there will not be enough nutrients for all the plants, and if there is free space, excess branches can be planted there.

It is worth tying up the plants after the appearance of the second or third true leaf, the stem is fixed on a support.

Top dressing can be applied both in liquid and dry form, recommend urea, copper sulfate, potassium permanganate.

Finally, ripe cucumbers should be removed promptly. Zelentsy, hanging on the branches for too long, inhibit the growth of other fruits. It is by removing the fruits, when they are not too large, that you can harvest the maximum yield.

Advantages and disadvantages

Cucumber variety Nezhinsky has a number of advantages, in particular:

  • excellent taste, by which the original variety is recognized (not a hybrid);
  • undemanding to growing conditions. Nezhinsky is unpretentious, it bears fruit even if agrotechnical measures are not carried out too carefully;
  • endurance in relation to temperature extremes, feels great in unprotected soil;
  • green plants form and grow to normal sizes, even if during their formation there was a drought;
  • a significant duration of the fruiting period of this mid-season variety, it continues to produce crops in the fall, almost until winter;
  • immunity (or low susceptibility) to various diseases, which is uncharacteristic for most varieties, constituting a typical advantage of hybrids, but it is present in Nizhinsky. In particular, they are characterized by resistance to viruses and fungal parasites. Plants may not get sick, even if bushes grow around them, which all suffer from one disease or another;
  • high immunity to mosaic wilt;
  • the resulting greens are universal, they can be used both fresh and for salting according to various recipes.

Cucumber variety Nezhinsky

The value of this variety is confirmed by the fact that it became the basis on which breeders created new varieties, including Nezhinsky Kuban and Nezhinsky 12.

If we talk about shortcomings, it should be borne in mind that this variety itself does not belong to hybrids, therefore, in terms of yield, it is usually inferior to such artificially bred varieties. The gardener can count on only 2-3 kilos per square meter. Also, because plants are pollinated by bees, they are dependent on these insects. In addition, this variety, with increased resistance to most diseases, has a low immunity to downy mildew.
