Everyone who is related to orchards and country gardens, one way or another, is engaged in the cultivation of vegetables, among which tomatoes are not the last. When choosing a variety, summer residents often stop at Gin's tomato. This option is especially suitable for advanced gardeners who are interested in breeding achievements and try to keep up with modern developments in the field of agriculture. This variety is perfect for salads, canning, making ketchup and tomato paste. It is one of the most popular and successful large-fruited tomato varieties. June's tomato seeds were bred by Dutch breeders. Later they began to grow in other countries of the world. In our country, the production of seeds is carried out by such companies as the Siberian Garden, SeDek, and Successful Harvest. The Gina variety has been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements since 2000. It is also worth mentioning here the hybrid form - Gina TST tomatoes. This variety was bred a little later by the main Moscow agrofirm "Poisk".

General characteristics of the variety

As for the characteristics and descriptions of Gina tomatoes, it was bred quite recently, but, despite this, it has already gained wide popularity. The fruits are colored deep pink or bright red, have a spherical shape. The surface of the skin is slightly ribbed, it itself has a rather dense texture. The type of growth, to which the Gina tomato belongs, is determinate, the bushes are mid-season. The plant reaches an average height of 60 cm. On one cluster, from 3 to 6 fruits can be located. The bush is medium leafy. According to most gardeners, the tomato has excellent taste.

It is noteworthy that this variety of tomatoes has a hybrid form - Gina TST tomatoes.

The distinctive features of the hybrid that make the difference in comparison with the main form are the following:

  • short ripening period;
  • orange peel;
  • small size;
  • resistance to damage.

This variety is not universal, so Gina TST is not used for canning. These tomatoes are mainly consumed fresh.

The hybrid is a mid-season variety. The fruits ripen on the 100th day after planting seeds in the ground. Tomatoes are round in shape and grow very juicy. The average weight of one fruit is 200 g. The cultivation of such tomatoes is allowed both in the open field and in greenhouse conditions.

In some cases, the variety is referred to as mid-season, in others, it is said about early ripening. The latter depend on climatic conditions and, in accordance with this, can be 85-120 days. Early harvest is also possible with greenhouse tomato cultivation.

According to the general taste description of the Gina variety, the bright red rounded fruits have a sweetish taste with a slight sourness. The pulp is very juicy, fleshy. Tomatoes can easily be transported over long distances and have a long shelf life. Tomatoes will remain fresh, will not lose their presentation and taste for three months if they are placed in a clean glass container and kept in a cool place. The bushes bear fruit for a long period, ripening occurs uncommonly.

Thus, the main indicators of Gina tomatoes are:

  • determinancy;
  • medium branchiness;
  • mid-maturity;
  • short stature and medium leafiness of the bushes;
  • large-fruited.

The yield of tomatoes is up to 10 kg per square meter. With high-quality care, regular and timely watering, feeding, one bush can give 3-4 kg of large fruits.

The bush consists of three stems, the growth of which starts from the very root. The advantage of this variety is that the bushes do not have to be tied up, shaped and pinned.

Tomatoes are very thermophilic and extremely sensitive to temperature extremes. Therefore, if you plan to plant in open ground, the plant will need temporary shelter.

Tomato is resistant to many diseases, including late blight, root rot, fusarium and other pathologies. Moreover, the plant often suffers from pests.

It is best to grow Gina tomatoes in the southern regions of our country. In these areas, tomatoes grow well outdoors and do not need shelter. In regions with a more severe climate, you will have to use the greenhouse method of growing tomatoes.

As mentioned earlier, this variety does not require tying, pinching and removing side shoots. Therefore, growing tomatoes will not be difficult.

Gin's tomato in the garden

The technology and planting system of this method is more complex. Its essence boils down to sowing seeds. To do this, you need to find the most illuminated piece of land. It is recommended to drain the soil before planting the plant, since this variety does not tolerate stagnant water in the soil.

Sowing is carried out in late spring - early summer. Before the event, the seeds are soaked in water. Landing is not advised to do at a very close distance. Otherwise, the taste of tomatoes will not change for the better. Thus, in order for each bush to receive enough nutrients, there should be a small distance between the seeds.

The length of the sowing furrows should be at least 30 cm. At the bottom of each of them a layer of ash and fertilizers should be laid, and on top of the furrows should be covered with earth and watered with plenty of water. Then you need to prepare shallow holes for sowing, after which several seeds should be placed in each of them (3-4 will be enough). Next, the holes should be covered with earth, and the soil should be covered to prevent it from drying out and the appearance of weeds.

Seedling method

Sowing in this case is carried out in April. Planting is done in special pots or wooden containers, after which the containers are removed to a warm place. The first shoots appear around the eighth or ninth day. To increase the number of fruits, it is recommended to cover the containers with seedlings with a transparent film. Planting in open ground can be done after 45-50 days. You need to plant tomatoes at a short distance from each other. After the tomatoes are planted in a permanent place, you will need to carry out regular weeding of seedlings, constant and timely watering and feeding.

The density of the soil should be as follows: for one square meter - 3 or 4 plants. The ripening period of tomatoes is 110-125 days after the first shoots appear.

To prevent the spread of pests, the lower leaves of the tomatoes should be removed from time to time. This procedure will also provide better ventilation of the seedlings.
