Today in the world there are over a hundred varieties of cherry varieties. New species appear with stable consistency, and their quality characteristics more and more meet the often overestimated requirements of gardeners. One of the most surprising in its taste is Carmine Jewel, its homeland is Canada. Cherry precious carmine description of the variety, competent care and its rules for ensuring are disclosed later in the article.

Description of the variety and key features

Cherry Carmine Jewel is a variety that was bred in special climatic conditions by gifted scientists at the University of Canada, therefore its second name is Canadian cherry. Thanks to the crossing of the common and steppe species, in 1999, scientists gave birth to the first plant. The variety has been studied for several years and was officially introduced for release in 2002. Cherry Carmine Jewel was intended for cultivation in a sharply continental zone, because only here the variety could show its taste and bring an excellent harvest in abundance.

Complementflax information! The plant is distinguished by dwarf growth, it is for this reason that it is called both a tree and a shrub. Its height reaches 2 m. It is easy to care for cherries and to pick berries, they perfectly withstand even the most severe frost. Cherry Precious Carmine is a self-fertile cultivar, as no other cultivar pollination is required to form fruit. Literally 40% of inflorescences turn into fruits without the outside participation of pollinating insects.

The number of ovaries directly depends on the weather and may fluctuate. After the plant is planted in open ground, the taste characteristics of the crop can be assessed after 3 years. The maximum fruiting occurs in the 7th year of growth and development of the tree.

Fully ripe fruits have a deep burgundy, almost black color. The carmine shade of the berries is, in fact, the basis of the name. The berries of the tree are very juicy and large, each weighing up to 3.5 g. Sweet cherries in a composition with plums - this is how the taste of ripe Carmine Juela berries can be described. They lack astringency, but the fruits are endowed with sugary sweetness. The sugar level in berries can be as high as 14%. The cherries contain small bones with a very impressive size.

Fruit ripening lasts from mid-summer to early August. During this period, the flavor profile of the fruit changes. Only by the time of the final harvest do they acquire sufficient juiciness and sweetness.

Note! One cherry bush can produce up to 15 kg of delicious cherry berries. After ripening, they usually remain hanging on the branches and can wait in the wings until autumn.

You can eat cherries:

  • fresh;
  • cook compotes from them;
  • make jam;
  • freeze.

Due to its high sugar content, Precious Carmine cherries are used for the production of juices, wines and all kinds of juice drinks. Ripe fruits can be stored for up to three weeks.

Care rules

Canadian cherry is a relatively new variety, it is very difficult to find cuttings for harvesting that can be easily grafted. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to reproduce independently. It is much easier to purchase a plant from a nursery.It is better to grow such a culture in those regions where there are nighttime temperature drops (hot during the day, cool at night). Under such conditions, the fruits begin to accumulate sugar, so in regions where this is not observed, the berries may remain sour.

Additional Information! Loamy soil is suitable for the plant. When planting plants in rows, it is required to maintain a distance between trees of at least 1 meter, and between rows - 150 cm. The row spacing can be expanded to several meters in order to harvest using special combines.

In order to correctly plant a seedling, you need:

  • supply the soil with fertilizers before planting cherries. The pits should be prepared in two weeks by filling in and leaving fertilizer inside;
  • if the rootstock of the seedling is closed, the hole should be 100 cm deep and the same in diameter. The soil will be loose, which will give the roots a chance to develop rapidly and safely;
  • the plant is rolled into a hole, sprinkled with soil mixed with fertilizers, and then pressed down;
  • having filled up a hole, a side is built from the soil, which will not allow water to spread and will be able to keep it inside the trunk circle;
  • sprinkle with peat, a small layer of cut grass and humus.

After planting, the plant needs to be watered once a week. Each seedling needs at least one bucket of water. Watering abundantly and regularly is very important in the first three years after planting.

Benefits of the variety

Cherry Carmen Juel is endowed with a lot of positive properties:

  • fruiting in the third year of life;
  • resistance to dry weather, pests and diseases;
  • high yield rates;
  • colossal frost resistance;
  • long term preservation of the fruit's presentation (bright carmine shade);
  • an adult tree has a small height, which allows you to quickly and efficiently harvest - this is a key varietal feature;
  • Unlike other varieties, for example, Evans Bali cherries, Carmine Jewel cherries are endowed with a very sweet taste;
  • planting one tree is possible due to the self-fertility of the variety.
