Among fruit trees, the pear deserves a place of honor. Breeders have created many varieties with different characteristics.

General information

Pear varieties by ripening periods are divided into:

  • Early. The very first fruits ripen in mid-July. Fruiting is extended and lasts about a month. Early or, as they are also called, summer varieties of pears have an excellent taste. They can be eaten straight from the tree. These include the Rainbow pear.
  • Summer varieties are not subject to long-term storage. The maximum shelf life is 7 days. The early ones need to be removed on time and used for juicing. They are also good for fresh consumption. If the fruits are not removed, then they become not tasty, the pulp turns into gruel.
  • Average. Ripe fruits can be removed from the tree in September. These include the Karpusha pear. Mid-season or autumn ones are stored for 2 months, but they can also be immediately used for processing for winter preparations or for fresh food. New varieties include such a plant as the Udachnaya Falkenberg pear, the description of the variety of which draws attention to its resistance to pests and diseases.
  • Late. The fruits are harvested at the end of September and stored. Such a crop can be stored until spring. Ripening of winter pears occurs during storage. In a month, despite the favorable climate in the store, you can taste juicy and aromatic fruits.

Each variety has its own advantages and disadvantages. Depending on the end goal, each gardener can choose the most suitable variety.

Characteristics and description of the variety

The Raduzhnaya variety was created in Chelyabinsk in 1985 by a group of breeders of the South Ural Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing. The head of the team was Ericht Aleksandrovich Falkenberg - the author of most of the Chelyabinsk pears.

You need to know the characteristics of the variety in order to correctly determine the choice:

  • Taste. This is the main characteristic by which any fruit tree is selected. Raduzhnaya has a slightly lower taste and aroma score than Lucky Falkenberg's pear - 4.5 out of 5. The pulp is juicy, sweet with a slight sourness, which does not spoil the taste. The fruit has a flavor that is characterized as intense pear.
  • Fruit color. As it ripens, the skin color changes from green with a red blush to yellow-green with a red barrel when fully ripe. The skin of a ripe fruit is thin and delicate, does not interfere with the perception of taste.
  • The size and shape of the fruit. The pears are rounded, not very elongated. The largest of them reach a weight of 150 g. Such fruits grow if the season is sunny and warm. The average fruit weight is 100-120 g.
  • The dimensions of the tree and the shape of the crown. An adult plant grows to a height of about 4 meters. The crown is neat, rounded.
  • Frost resistance. Empirically, the lower limit is set at -37 ° C. At lower temperatures, the branches freeze by 20%, but then they can recover.
  • Winter hardiness. The varietal trait is weak and comes out for a long time after wintering, if the autumn was warm and long, and then snowless frosts suddenly set in.
  • Disease and pest resistance. High resistance to scab and fire blight is noted. Of the pests, the gall pear mite is not dangerous. For prevention, every spring the tree must be treated with Alatar from pests and Abiga-peak from a complex of diseases.
  • Self-fertility. Without partners-pollinators, it makes no sense to wait for the harvest. The trees of the Falkenberg selection Fazochnaya and Krasulia are suitable neighbors for this variety. The description of the pollination properties of the Karpush pear has not yet been studied.
  • The frequency of the harvest. Every year Rainbow will delight with the harvest. Good care will help her in this.

Important! Unfairly, a pear is considered a tree, from which the harvest must be expected for about 10 years. The work of breeders has led to the development of new varieties, in which this characteristic is reduced to 4 years. These varieties include Rainbow. A six-year-old tree produces a yield of 15 kg.

Place in the sun and growing conditions

To grow the Rainbow pear, the description of which was indicated above, the following conditions are required:

  • The right choice of location. The southwest or southeast side of the house will do. Can be planted on gentle slopes and flat terrain. Do not plant in a strong draft or in the shade.
  • Watering. The pear is one of the plants that react to a lack of moisture.
  • Formation of a tree. For convenient harvesting, there are several options: buy a seedling on a dwarf rootstock or form a tree using the old method. In the second version, the result is a tree, which is usually called a monastery pear, a description of the method of formation - the horizontal arrangement of branches by fixing them on a wire.
  • Timely treatment against pests and diseases. This treatment must be done once a month, starting in early spring. These preventive measures will ensure successful care and a good harvest.
  • Top dressing. The alternation of fertilizer types will be correct. The first top dressing is done in early spring after thawing of the soil with rotted manure or a solution of chicken manure at the rate of 1:10. The next top dressing involves a complex of complete mineral fertilization and is done two weeks after the first.

Attention! In dry summer, Rainbow can upset the gardener with small and tasteless fruits. Ensure sufficient watering once a week. The soil should be saturated with water 30-50 cm in diameter of the crown.

Top dressing can be root and leaf. With root dressing, the fertilizer is embedded in the soil. After dressing, abundant watering is required at the rate of 50 liters per adult plant.

Planting correctly will help ensure a healthy tree and a good harvest. The planting pit must be filled with long-term fertilizer type AVA, humus and a little clay soil if the soil is sandy. The graft should be 3 cm above the soil level and face south.

Subject to the above conditions, Rainbow will annually delight the gardener with a bountiful harvest of delicious pears.
