The Bryansk beauty pear received its name, because it was bred by the specialists of the station located near the city of Bryansk. This pear variety very quickly gained popularity among amateurs and expanded the list of pear crops that are considered elite examples of fruit trees.
general information
With a great deal of confidence, we can say that the progenitors of the Bryansk pear variety were Novogodnaya and another well-known species - Williams red. This hybrid was intended specifically for the regions of the Black Earth Region, but over time it quickly spread across the vast expanses of Russia, including the Ural region.
This pear variety needs a lot of sunlight for its normal development. When choosing a landing region, one should proceed from the fact that strong winds are not observed in this area.
Description and characteristics of the variety
When describing the features of the Bryanskaya Krasavitsa variety, which can be classified as late in terms of ripening time, its following properties should be noted:
- The Bryanskaya pear tree is of small height and resembles a pyramid tapering towards the top.
- From her progenitor, William Red, she received a reddish tint of foliage and branches.
- Before the appearance of the upper buds, its shoots are burgundy, which is especially noticeable on the uppermost leaves.
The trunk and bark of this tree differ in the same shade. The leaves on it finally turn green only after a certain time, while acquiring a rich, dark color with a slight glossiness.
When describing the pear, the Bryansk beauty, it is impossible to ignore the characteristics of the fruits. Pears are usually represented as follows:
- This garden fruit is rather large (pears weigh up to 200 grams), and is also distinguished by a pleasing scarlet color and a slightly elongated pear-shaped shape.
- The pear has a dense burgundy skin, smooth to the touch and a little dull.
- The pear pulp itself is characterized by a decorative cream color.
- Without a pronounced odor, this fruit has a subtle floral aroma.
By their taste, the fruits of this pear variety can be characterized as very sweet and juicy, with a soft and tender flesh. At the same time, there is a slightly noticeable sourness in their taste, despite which, when biting off a pear, its pulp melts in the mouth like honey. It is allowed to store the fruits of this variety for 2 months.
Agrotechnics
Choice of location and soil
A review of the cultivation features should begin with the requirements that apply to the soil of the area allocated for this type of pear.
Space requirements are as follows:
- The pear planting area should be spacious enough and not shaded by other trees.
- The depth of the underground (ground) water should not be less than 3 meters (the presence of stagnant moisture leads to decay of the tree roots).
- For this plant, a slightly acidic (in extreme cases, neutral) soil is preferable.
The pear of the variety in question belongs to self-fertile crops, a good harvest of which is not at all guaranteed. The volume of fruit collection in this case is determined by local factors, namely: climatic conditions and soil quality.
To increase the number of fruits, it is preferable if some pollinator tree grows next to the Beauty. When choosing, one should proceed from the fact that its flowering time approximately coincides with the same period for a pear. Crop cultivation practice has shown that with an increase in the number of trees growing nearby, the likelihood of cross-pollination increases, which leads to an increase in the yield of each of them.
Planting pears
Planting of seedlings of this species in the ground can be carried out at any time of the year (spring-summer-autumn). The main condition for successful cultivation is to prepare the soil in advance at the planting site (dig holes in it and wait until the soil has completely settled).
When preparing a planting site for a pear, the Bryansk beauty fertile soil is laid out separately, which allows you to subsequently mix it with 2-3 buckets of manure (compost), and then add another bucket of river sand to the resulting mixture. A glass of superphosphate and about 5 large tablespoons of potassium sulfate should also be added there. The resulting composition is thoroughly mixed, after which the previously dug hole is filled with it.
Planting a pear seedling is carried out according to the following scheme:
- In the center of the previously prepared hole, a small mound is made, which raises the root collar of the sprout a few centimeters above the ground level.
- A peg is driven in next to it, which will later be used to tie a pear tree.
- After that, the pit is covered with soil, which is then carefully compacted.
Upon completion of the earthworks, the landing site is watered with 2-3 buckets of well-settled water. Immediately after the water is completely absorbed into the soil, the soil near the pear seedling is mulched (compost or wood chips can be used for this).
Care
During the entire growing season, a pear seedling needs regular watering of the trunk circle and regular weeding. Starting from the second year of cultivation, various dressings are introduced into the soil under it, and measures are taken to combat diseases and garden pests.
In the summer period, for watering a young seedling, it is preferable to use a special regime called sprinkling, which involves spraying through a hose using a special nozzle-splitter. In its absence, water is simply poured into a groove dug along the circle with a depth of about 10-15 cm.
After the completion of watering and the final absorption of moisture, the soil under the tree must be loosened. The next top dressing is applied under the seedling only next spring. It contains obligatory mineral fertilizers (30-40 grams of superphosphate, 20 grams of potassium chloride and a little urea). Once a year, organic matter is added to the same area in a specially prepared groove, including humus, compost and slurry or chicken droppings (in a mixture - up to 10 kg).
To save a pear seedling from severe winter frosts, it is recommended:
- Thoroughly mulch the near-stem area-circle.
- Wrap it up with thick paper, a piece of tar paper or insulate it with spruce branches.
- Thoroughly pile up the tree, pouring an additional earthen lump under it with a thickness of up to 0.5 meters.
In winter, it is recommended to shovel fresh snow into the area under the seedling.
Advantages and disadvantages
The indisputable advantages of the Bryansk Beauty variety include:
- Short terms before the beginning of fruiting.
- Fairly good frost resistance.
- Good immunity to a number of diseases (scab), as well as resistance to aphids and fungi.
- Excellent taste.
- Independence from the presence of other pollinators nearby.
Like most fruit crops, this species has its disadvantages, manifested in the instability of the yield indicator and low drought tolerance.
In conclusion, it should be noted that pears of this variety have long attracted gardeners with their excellent taste, as well as the tenderness of the pulp, combined with the attractive appearance of large fruits. This attitude is also due to the fact that this type of pear takes root well in any regions of central Russia.
