Pear Talgar beauty is one of the most interesting varieties. It was bred in Kazakhstan on the basis of the Lesnaya Krasavitsa variety brought from Belgium. Breeding work was carried out back in the 1960s, but this variety was zoned only in the early 1990s in the North Caucasus region. Today this variety is common in the Stavropol Territory, in the Krasnodar Territory, in the Ukraine. In short, it is called Talgarka pear or Talgarochka.
Main characteristics of the variety
This is an autumn variety of pear. The description of the variety should start with its external characteristics. It is a medium-sized tree with a broad-pyramidal crown of medium density. On average, its height is up to 3 m. Skeletal branches extend from the trunk almost at right angles. The bark of the tree is gray, has a scaly structure.
Shoots are straight, medium in thickness. They are brown in color and are not drooping, unlike the branches.
Pears form on ringed branches. The buds of this variety are conical, large, not fleecy. The leaves of this tree are dark green, large, with long petioles, smooth, without pubescence, resembling an egg in shape. Their edges are finely serrated.
The main characteristics of Talgar pear are the ability to quickly bear fruit after planting and high yield. 30-35 kg are removed from the tree (and this indicator is stable, does not change over the years). From 1 hectare you can collect 150-200 centners. This is a winter-hardy variety, it normally tolerates temperatures down to -30 ° C. If the frosts are more severe, the tree will freeze, but it can be reanimated.
Seedlings of this variety grow quickly. A full-fledged tree is formed within three years after planting.
This variety is not self-pollinating. This means it needs pollinators to bear fruit. But not all varieties are suitable for this, but only such varieties as the Lyubimitsa Klappa pear, Conference and Hoverla. With proper care, Talgarka will bear fruit abundantly every year.
Talgarka is famous for its beautiful, tasty and aromatic fruits that belong to the dining category. They are good on their own, they are used for making salads and desserts. The taste is due to the fact that fruit sugars prevail over acids here. The chemical composition of the fruits of this variety is as follows:
- sugars - 9%,
- organic acids - 0.37%,
- the rest is water (85%), vitamins and minerals.
On average, these pears contain about 7 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of pulp.
The fruits of Talgar pear have the following characteristics:
- elongated shape with a slightly sloping top, reminiscent of a bottle,
- oily skin, rather delicate, with a beautiful glossy shine,
- the color is light yellow, but in those areas on which the sun's rays fall, there is a red spot of an indistinct shape,
- under the skin on the unlit side, a large number of small greenish dots are noticeable, and in sunny areas these specks become white, but are still clearly visible,
- stalks of medium length, slightly curved,
- the funnel is small, often completely absent.
When ripe, the fruits reach a weight of 170-200 g, but there are also larger fruits - weighing up to 250 g.Their not too dense flesh is creamy and has a fine-grained texture. The fruits are very sweet with a light aroma. Pears are removed at the end of September, by which time they are ripe, but in order for them to be eaten, they still have to lie down in a cool place for a month or two. Therefore, it is said that consumer maturity occurs by November.
Features of agricultural technology
In order for the variety to reveal all its positive qualities, the tree needs proper care. But you need to start by choosing a healthy and sufficiently developed seedling. Pear trees 1-2 years old are best suited for these purposes, they take root well.
It is recommended to plant them in the spring, always in well-lit areas. In the south, autumn planting of seedlings is also possible if the winters in the region are not too frosty. Previously, the trees are placed in water for a day so that the roots absorb moisture. This is a medium-sized variety with a not too lush crown, so the distance between the planting pits can be about 2 m.As for the size of the pit itself, a depth of 1 m and a width of 50 cm is sufficient.
Before planting, a nutrient mixture is prepared - about 16 liters of humus mixed with potassium salt (100 g) and superphosphate (200 g). The trees are inserted vertically into the grooves, carefully so as not to damage the roots, and then they are covered with the prepared mixture and trampled. Then you need to water the hole and sprinkle with humus again.
In the future, Talgarka does not need abundant watering, since it belongs to a drought-resistant type of trees. But this does not mean that there is no need to water it at all. This is done as the soil around dries up. The norm is no more than 2 buckets per tree.
Although we are talking about a winter-hardy variety, the tree still needs mulching in the near-trunk zone. For this, peat, wood ash, sawdust are used. In spring, this will protect against cracking of the soil and rapid evaporation of moisture.
It is recommended to process young trees in autumn with lime or a whitewash mixture before frost, and then insulate them with agrofibre. In the first year, except for the mixture described above, fertilizers are not needed. But already in the second year, in the spring, it is required to add saltpeter (in a proportion of 15 g per 1 square meter), and in the fall - the nutrient mixture described above, but only less than the first time (the proportion remains the same, but for 5 liters of humus).
It is imperative that the branches are pruned to form the crown; dry branches are regularly removed. It is also necessary for the prevention of diseases. For the same purposes, twice in the spring - before flowering and after - the trees are sprayed with Bordeaux liquid.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
This variety has a number of advantages. These include:
- juicy and sweet pulp with a pleasant taste,
- high yield,
- resistance to various fungal infections, including scab,
- rapid growth of seedlings, fruiting in 3-4 years,
- the ability to tolerate frost well, thanks to which this variety can be grown in the Moscow region and central Russia,
- beautiful fruit shape,
- good keeping quality of pears, which can be stored in storage with an artificial cooling system until December, retaining not only taste, but also an attractive appearance. During all this time, no spots appear on their skin,
- excellent transportability of fruits.
In addition, these trees tolerate drought well, which is not surprising given the climatic conditions for which they were bred.
Definitely, the variety has more advantages than disadvantages; it deserves a place on the site.
