The Yubilyar apple tree is a fruit tree variety that should be in the summer cottage of every gardener. The apple tree is unpretentious, winter-hardy, resistant to pests and diseases, and most importantly - every year it pleases with a rich harvest. Juicy and aromatic apples have been enjoyed since August.

Variety history

In 1982, breeders of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Fruit Crops bred a unique variety of apples Yubilyar. The new species is due to the modern hybrid form 814 - free pollination. The first fruiting occurred in 1989 exactly 8 years after the seedling was planted in the ground. The variety was distinguished by its high yield and scab resistance.

Scientific tests were carried out on the Yubilyar variety in the Central Black Earth Region of Russia, where it showed its best qualities. In this regard, today the apple tree is suitable for growing even in the Nizhnevolozhsk region.

Description of the variety

The Yubileinaya apple tree was created by crossing the Golden Delicious variety and the hybrid form 814. As a result, the breeders obtained a triploid apple variety with a late summer ripening period.

Features of culture:

  • culture is self-fertile;
  • due to the presence of the Vf gene, the variety is resistant to pests, including powdery mildew;
  • pollination requires other varieties;
  • high winter hardiness of the variety;
  • the trees are medium-sized, fast growing;
  • the kidneys are conical, compressed, covered with small villi;
  • leaves are slightly wrinkled, saturated green, rather large and wide, rounded in shape. The tips of the leaves are pointed, helically twisted, the edges are serrated;
  • the leaf plate is omitted, has a concave shape, wrinkled, shiny with pronounced coarse veins;
  • the buds are elongated, hairy, of average size.

A similar description of the Yubilyar apple variety will interest any gardener. In addition, the culture tolerates frost well, different temperature changes, if it is provided with good care and protection in winter. The fruits of the Anniversary are as juicy and aromatic as the varieties of the Krasnaya Moskva apple tree.

Fruit characteristics:

  • the weight of one apple is 130-140 g;
  • the size of the fruits is average, the shape is round-conical, ribbing is barely noticeable;
  • the peel is smooth, glossy;
  • apples have a greenish color during the harvest period, are ready for use when the fruits acquire a greenish-yellow color;
  • on the surface of the skin of the fruit, raspberry blotches and elongated stripes are noticeable, as well as numerous subcutaneous points, of bright severity;
  • the peduncle is of medium length, small, straight and thin;
  • the structure of the pulp is fine-grained;
  • the taste is sweet with pronounced notes of sourness;
  • the variety is rated by tasters at 4.4 points, and the taste - 4.2 points.

The fruits of the Anniversary contain useful trace elements such as sugar, titratable and ascorbic acids, P-active substances. Apples are consumed fresh and canned, apple juice, compotes are prepared, combined with other fruits and vegetables.

Important! Unlike the apple variety Lyubimitsa Shevchenko (Cornflower), the fruits of which are just beginning to ripen at the beginning of September, the Yubilyar apple harvest is already over. Ripening of the presented varieties begins in early August and ends in the first half of September.

After harvesting, the fruits are stored for 1-2 months. Apples are placed in wooden boxes with sand at a short distance from each other.

Subspecies

The culture does not apply to early-growing apple trees, fruiting begins only 8 years after the seedling is planted in the ground. But an adult tree pleases with a harvest every year.

Scientists breeders have created a variety of culture - a dwarf apple tree, which has the same indicators as the Anniversary. A dwarf tree does not grow more than 2.5 m, the first harvest can be expected in 2-3 years. The varietal type of apple tree is distinguished by a rich, annual harvest and high resistance to scab and other diseases.

Growing technique

Saplings are planted in autumn or spring. In this case, it is important to take into account the optimal time for planting seedlings in the ground. In the spring, planting works are carried out in the last week of March or early April, while the seedling buds are in a dormant state. In autumn, fruit trees are best planted in the last week of September or early October.

Important! The best time to plant seedlings in the ground when they are dormant is during the fall. In this state, the plant will easily endure the transplant, and the root system will adapt in the soil and prepare for the first frost.

The apple tree is unpretentious, but for a good harvest you need to follow certain rules. The soil for planting seedlings should be fertile, sandy loam or loamy, with sufficient moisture and air permeability. The groundwater must be deep.

Growing

When the place for the seedling is determined, a pit is prepared a week before planting. It must have at least 70 cm depth, about 1 m in diameter. The bottom of the hole must be well dug, fertilizer must be made from wood ash, humus, and superphosphate in equal amounts. The pit is watered abundantly with water.

Important! The place for the Yubilyar seedling should be sunny, protected from drafts.

After a week, you can plant a seedling, after soaking its root system in water for a day. In the hole, the tree is placed in the center, while the roots should not bend, too long are cut a little. The root collar and the grafting site are not deepened, but are left to protrude 6-8 cm above the ground. Fertilizers previously introduced into the pit will provide the seedling with all nutrients for 2 years in advance. The planted tree is generously watered with warm or settled water (2 buckets).

Important! When planting a tree in the fall, nitrogen fertilizers are not applied, since they can provoke active plant growth during the dormant period!

Simultaneously with the planting of the seedling, a long peg (1.3 - 1.7 cm) is driven into the hole. A tree is tied to it.

Yubilyar saplings are planted at a distance of 3-5 m from each other, between planting rows 5 m. The distance between dwarf seedlings is 2.5 m, between rows - 4 m.

Further care

In order for the tree to bear fruit well, a pollinator variety is grafted onto it. To do this, you need to prepare the offshoot of another tree, drying it a little. Next, you should make an oblique cut on the rootstock, implant a previously prepared shoot into it. Tie the junction with a cloth or gauze bandage.

Watering is carried out no more than 4 times per season. For one tree, 3-4 leads of settled water is enough. During dry periods, trees are watered more often, several times a month. To increase the apple tree's resistance to winter frosts, pre-winter watering is carried out after the harvest is complete. For this purpose, trees are watered with two buckets of water every day for a week.

Care

Every year they carry out autumn and spring feeding of apple trees, cleaning the site from last year's leaves, weeds, mulching the soil with straw, rotted humus, as well as spraying in order to prevent diseases and pests.

The Yubiley apple tree is resistant to scab, various diseases, therefore, spraying with special means is carried out only as needed. In the spring, apple trees are sprayed 2 times with preparations containing copper.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Apple trees of the Yubilyar variety are highly valued by amateur gardeners not only for their juicy and fragrant fruits, but also for other positive aspects of the culture.

Benefits:

  • high yield of the variety every year;
  • disease and pest resistance;
  • not a complicated technique for growing seedlings;
  • the variety is unpretentious;
  • tolerate low temperatures and negative weather conditions well.

There is only one disadvantage in apple trees and that is insignificant. This is the need to plant other varieties of self-pollinated trees nearby. But if the garden is large, other fruit trees grow in it, then the problem will be eliminated by itself.

Growing a good apple tree is not difficult at all. Observing the necessary agrotechnical rules, following the advice of experienced gardeners, after a couple of years, you can enjoy the wonderful taste of beautiful and aromatic apples.
