If a person owns a personal plot or summer cottage and wants to own a lawn, but he does not have the time and energy to care for real grass, then there is a good solution in the form of artificial turf.
Artificial grass promises aesthetic pleasure and comfort to its owner. At the same time, such coverage will not burden you with everyday worries.
Description
Artificial grass is understood as a roll covering, which is polyethylene and polypropylene fibers sewn into an elastic base and fixed with a latex compound.
Artificial grass is used in sports, as well as in various types of landscape design. It does not require maintenance, synthetics are not afraid of temperature drops and ultraviolet light, it does not depend on the climate.
Varieties
By the type of application, artificial grass can be divided into:
- Backfill. The most durable type of product. Green fibers are covered with quartz and hard granules. The blades are too harsh for playgrounds or other public places, but great for sports stadiums like a soccer field. Fillers cushion falls and reduce the likelihood of injury.
- Semi-fill. Differs in elasticity. Used for playgrounds, sports grounds or recreation areas. Grass fibers are covered with fine granular quartz, which gives strength to the lawn, but this coating will not withstand heavy loads.
- Unsolicited. The appearance of this lawn does not differ from real grass. It is used for exhibitions or interior decoration, as the fibers are soft and press against the ground at the slightest pressure.
According to the fiber structure, artificial grass is divided into 2 types:
- Fibrillated (includes wide notched fibers and has a mesh structure);
- Monofilament (whole fibers, made by extrusion).
Application
Artificial turf is used for landscaping the garden area. Artificial turf can be mixed with natural plants. If you add a grass cover to the design project of your personal plot, you can forget about caring for the grass for a long time.
Artificial turf, rubber-based grass is used to refine:
- playgrounds,
- sports stadiums,
- private balconies,
- terraces,
- restaurants,
- studios.
In addition, sometimes a safe and comfortable green lawn is used in studios for staging scenes, and in homes for decorating lounges. This coating is in perfect harmony with the artificial plants from the manufacturer.
Laying and fastening methods
The lawn is laid on a surface available for digging and applying soil (meaning street lawn). Rolls should not be placed, for example, on concrete, that is, without any preparation. Decorative types of flooring do not require support, but they are also not designed to move people.
Before laying the lawn, preparatory measures should be taken. First of all, you need to add an additional covering on which the grass will be laid.If it is supposed to lay a lawn in a rainy area, then drainage devices will be required, namely pipes at a depth of 50-60 cm for water to drain.
For reliable support, you need to dig out 20-30 cm of earth. A 2-4-centimeter crushed stone is poured into the formed pit until the middle. From above, fine gravel is added almost to the edges. The remaining voids of the pit are filled with granite.
This completes the preparatory activities and you can proceed directly to the flooring. In the prepared area, rolls of artificial turf should be unwound according to the dimensions indicated by the manufacturer. Interfering fragments can be easily cut off.
Adjacent rolls should overlap at least 1 cm. In order to fix them together, tape and glue are used. The tape must be brought under the joining rolls, grease with glue, attach the parts to be glued to each other and smooth with a roller.
After all the rolls are laid out and glued, quartz sand is poured on top. This coating will provide additional security and prevent the lint from caking. Sand consumption is approximately 15 kg per square meter.
Outdoor artificial grass
The concept of "artificial grass" combines many types of surfaces: outdoor, indoor, for decoration, etc.
They differ in characteristics:
- dTex is a unit of measure for fiber weight index and fiber length. 1 corresponds to a gram per 10 km. For example, if a lawn is measured at 10,000 dTexs, this means that 10 km weighs 10 kg.
- Fiber color. Artificial turf can be of one or several colors. Due to the use of several shades, a realistic appearance is achieved.
- UV resistance - this parameter determines the durability of the coating. According to German standards, a quality synthetic artificial grass carpet can withstand several thousand hours of continuous exposure to UV rays.
- Fastness of paint. Determines the time that the coating retains the brightness of the colors. Usually this parameter is determined on an eight-point scale, according to which 1 point corresponds to a product that fade very quickly in the sun.
- The backing is the backing to which the fibers are attached. It is divided into two layers: the primary is a fabric made of polypropylene or polyethylene, and the secondary is a latex compound that fixes the villi.
- Tufting level. This parameter determines the distance between the rows of fibers. The form of its indication is the number of rows and the length of the segment in inches.
- Fiber height is a parameter indicating the height of the villi in millimeters.
- Water Resistance - indicates the ability of the grass to retain moisture. It is expressed in the number of liters that will pass through one square meter of coverage per minute.
- The number of tufts is the number of stitches in one meter of the row.
- Bond strength - this characteristic is measured in newtons, indicates the strength of the interaction between the fiber and the base.
- Weight - this parameter determines the weight of the artificial turf, expressed in grams per square meter.
- Backfill - this parameter determines the amount of sand and granulate that the base is filled with. Measured in kilograms per square meter.
You can buy a plastic lawn both in stores and on the Internet. In the vastness of the network, artificial grass in rolls is quite cheap, but when ordering any product, the user will not be able to check the product, he will have to choose "blindly". In stores, the buyer will be able to fully examine the product before purchasing and make a suitable choice for himself. In addition to covering, the manufacturer offers inexpensive artificial shrubs, trees, or rocks.
Artificial grass is used in many areas, it does not require maintenance and does not cause problems for the owners. Its advantageous difference from real greenery is its durability. From a person you only need to spend money once on purchasing a roll and allocate time for installation.
