It is not easy to get a good harvest of tomatoes, demanding to the soil and climate, in the conditions of the northern regions. For vegetable growers living in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, breeder Bekseev Sh.G. created the Dvortsovy tomato. This variety can be grown by gardeners living in temperate latitudes.
Variety characteristics:
- stem 1.2 m high, requires a garter to the supports;
- early maturing;
- the fruit contains few seeds;
- has a stable immunity to common plant diseases.
The fruits of the Dvortsovy tomato are large, with full ripening their weight reaches 600 g. Tomatoes are painted in bright scarlet color, have a pleasant taste and a characteristic tomato smell. At the break, the pulp is dense, sugary.
It is a table variety for consumption raw, but the fruit can be used to prepare:
- juice,
- lecho,
- adjika.
These tomatoes are poorly suited for pickling in jars due to the large size of the fruit.
Care features
Tomatoes are grown in seedlings, seeds for seedlings are sown about 2-2.5 months before transplanting plants to the beds.
To ensure good germination, the temperature in the room with the seedlings is maintained above +20 degrees. When growing tomatoes for sale, the seedlings are placed on open long racks equipped with heating lamps. After 2-3 leaves appear at the shoots, the plants must be transplanted into peat pots.
Caring for a tomato by Dvortsov is no more difficult than for any other tomatoes. To get a good result, you need to follow a few simple rules:
- On open beds, seedlings are moved together with a peat pot after the soil warms up to 15 degrees.
- Fertilizers and wood ash are placed in the holes in the garden bed before planting.
- Evening time or a cloudy, rainy day is well suited for planting.
- Before planting seedlings, the holes are well filled with water.
- The row spacing should be at least 0.7 m, and the distance between plants - 0.5 m.
- The supports are dug in immediately, during planting of plants in the garden.
Dvortsovy tomato bushes are watered in the morning, two to three times a week. Water for irrigation is heated up to + 20 degrees.
Top dressing of the bushes is done regularly, starting from the 10th day from the moment of transplanting tomatoes to a place of constant growth.
Positive qualities of the variety
During the existence of the variety, they tried to plant the Dvortsovy tomato in many regions of the country. Judging by the reviews of St. Petersburg vegetable growers, in areas with poor soils and short summers this tomato shows good resistance to unfavorable climatic conditions.
Dvortsovy is not afraid of drafts and withstands short-term temperature drops.
Vegetable growers in the northern regions manage to get 4 kg of harvest from one square meter, and this is quite a decent result.
In the southern regions, this unpretentious variety shows the best yield.
The negative qualities of the variety include the exactingness of the tomato for constant feeding. Obviously, the advantages of the variety are more than offset by its minor disadvantages.
