Trumpet plants are one of the most effective forms of garden plantings. They naturally attract attention and have a decorative function. An apple tree on a stem, unlike traditional fruit trees, becomes a real decoration of the garden. It amazes guests and casual spectators with its appearance, and pleases the owner of the garden with its ease of care. Standard varieties of apple trees are not yet very common in Russia, therefore, they look unusual in domestic gardens. But experienced gardeners have known about this variety of apple trees for a long time.
Stamp apple tree - what is it
A stem is a section of a tree trunk that extends from the surface of the earth to the beginning of the branches. Plants with a pronounced, bare trunk, on which a crown is located, formed in the form of a ball, are called standard plants.
Stamp forms are quite common in city parks because they form attractive compositions. However, this approach is not exclusively the decorator's vision. The fact is that trees with a standard crown shape are better ventilated, actively develop, bear fruit and receive a sufficient amount of sunlight. Therefore, focusing on these advantages, breeders began to purposefully develop standard fruit trees.
Standard apple trees have many advantageous features that attract the attention of gardeners. Is it possible to successfully grow standard apple varieties on your personal plot? For an experienced agronomist, as a rule, this is not difficult, but beginners will first have to familiarize themselves with the rules for forming standard forms and caring for them.
Standard apple varieties: description
There are a large number of summer and autumn varieties of standard apple trees. The latter are more cold-resistant trees, adapted to unfavorable climatic conditions. The vast majority of varieties are characterized by excellent taste of ripe fruits.
Ural bulk
The result of the work of the breeder Lark P.A., was obtained as a result of pollination of the Ranetka red variety with the pollen of Breading.
The tree is characterized by an average growth rate, despite its compactness, it actively forms side shoots. Cold hardiness indicators are high. The crown is rounded drooping, rather thick. The bark of the trunk has a flaky structure, greenish-gray color. The leaves are medium in size, elongated, painted in light green tones. The formation of fruits is carried out on twigs, pods and annual shoots.
The tree begins to bear fruit in the second year after planting. From each tree, subject to the rules of agricultural technology, it is possible to collect 40-150 kg of apples. Fruits are characterized by a round shape, weight varies from 35 to 40 g. Painted in greenish-yellow tones, the peel is moderately strong, smooth and glossy. The taste is good, the fruits are sweet and sour, the flesh is white.
Anise purple
The result of the activities of the domestic breeder Dibrov P.A., was obtained by crossing Anis scarlet with Ranetka purple.
Fruit trees have good vigor and frost resistance indicators are good. The crone is characterized by a wide pyramidal shape. Begins to bear fruit three years after planting, fruiting is regular.
On average, 20-30 kg of apples are harvested from one tree. Fruit weight varies from 60 to 80 g. Color is light green, as it ripens, a blurred blush is formed. The peel is moderately strong, shiny, there is a waxy coating of gray color, the aroma is weak, but pleasant. The pulp is sweet, moderately juicy, colored in a greenish tint. A characteristic feature is a weak scab (fungal disease).
High
A variety obtained from seedlings of a cultivated clonal apple tree.
The indicators of winter hardiness are excellent. The tree is rapidly growing, large in size. The crone is characterized by a wide-pyramidal shape, average density. The bark is brown. Shoots are slightly pubescent, dark brown in color, medium thickness. The leaves are painted in a matte dark green color, the size is medium, the shape is oblong.
Fruiting begins at 5-6 years, as the tree matures, it tends to periodicity. As a rule, it is possible to collect about 60-70 kg from a tree. Fruits are round, smooth, weight up to 50 g. The color is greenish-yellow; as it ripens, a blurred red blush is formed. The rind is oily, tender and smooth. Scab resistant. The harvested crop, subject to storage rules, lays about a month.
Gornoaltaiskaya
The Gorno-Altai variety of the standard apple tree is considered one of the best Siberian varieties. It combines excellent frost resistance, regular fruiting and excellent taste.
Spreading crowns, fast-growing tree. The amount of the harvested crop varies from 50 to 90 kg. The fruits are characterized by a rounded-conical shape. Weight ranges from 28 to 36 g, bright yellow, with a solid red blush. The pulp tastes sweet and sour, cream color. Duration of storage of ripe fruits is no more than two weeks.
Variety Hope
Was bred by crossing the varieties of the Ural ribbed with Borovinka.
In trees, the crown has a pyramidal shape. The variety has good cold resistance. Yields usually range from 22 to 65 kg. The fruits have a flat-round shape, are colored green, and have a blurred lateral blush. The peel is dry and smooth. Excellent taste, moderately juicy pulp, sweet and sour. Duration of storage of the harvested crop is no more than three months. Scab resistance is noted.
Miasskoe
A variety of the standard apple tree, obtained by crossing the varieties of the Ural ribbed and Cinnamon. Trees are characterized by a rounded pyramidal crown, excellent cold-resistance indicators.
It is possible to collect 20-58 kg of fruit from the tree. The weight of each apple varies from 80 to 100 g. The shape is flat-round, wide-ribbed. The color is yellow, the skin is rather rough. Duration of storage of ripe fruits is no more than two months. The variety is resistant to fungal disease - scab.
Chinese woman of gold
Summer apple variety, which was bred by the famous Russian scientist-breeder Michurin I.V. by crossing the varieties Kitayka and White filling.
High rates of frost resistance are noted. After planting, it begins to bear fruit for 3-4 years. Harvest time is mid-August. Duration of storage of ripe fruits is not more than 20 days. It is possible to harvest approximately 80-100 kg of apples from one tree. With heavy rainfall and wet weather, the tree is affected by scab.
Agrotechnics: advice from experienced agronomists
It is very tempting to plant standard apple trees in the garden, but it should be understood that in addition to standard care (watering, weeding, feeding, loosening the trunk circle, prevention / treatment of diseases), specific pruning will also be required.
Planting standard apple trees
- It is recommended to give preference to annual seedlings, since they adapt faster and are less susceptible to diseases, in contrast to old planting material.
- The root system should not be allowed to dry out, it should always be moderately elastic in the seedling.
- The most optimal spacing between the standard apple trees is at least 0.3 m, the row spacing should be about 1 meter.
- The size of the planting hole should be such that the root system of the plant fits freely there.
- First, you need to prepare a pit, add organic and / or mineral fertilizers there, and, if necessary, provide drainage. Planting material is installed in a pit, the root system is straightened. Above the ground, you will need to leave a place for grafting.
- After planting, it is necessary to carefully tamp the ground, form a near-trunk circle and water the tree abundantly.
Wild shoots rushing upwards are capable of breaking out along the entire length of the post, from under the soil or below the graft, on the rootstock. All branches formed at the grafting site should be removed as soon as possible. Such shoots require a lot of nutrients from the root system, which will adversely affect the formation and ripening of fruits.
The shoots are actively formed only in the first three years of the tree's life, but it is still necessary to monitor the purity of the trunk.
To form an attractive appearance of the crown, you will need to cut out all the shoots that change their characteristic shape. Usually, in good light, the number of uncharacteristic shoots does not exceed 5-10% of the total mass of shoots.
Standard apple trees are unique varieties that represent an alternative to vigorous trees. First of all, this species is prized for its compactness and abundant fruiting. The latter is due to the fact that the root system supplies the tree with a sufficient amount of nutrients for the formation and development of fruits, there are few shoots - not many resources are required for their development.
