Variety history
Breeder Saveliev N.I., who worked at the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding and Genetics of Fruit Crops, bred a new apple variety Skala, crossing the previously known Michurinskaya Bessemyanka and Prima. Initially, the novelty became widespread in the Tambov region, where it was received. Due to the many positive reviews, they became interested in the culture in other regions, where the variety showed itself no worse than in its native lands.
Description of apple tree Rock
The trees are medium-sized (reach 8 meters in height), the crown is dense, consists of light green leaves, the fruits have a yellow-green color. The culture boasts strong, sharp branches with gray bark located at an acute angle to the trunk. The trunk is brown-gray, rough. The shoots have a brown-green color. The foliage is oblong. The petals on the inflorescences are loose and pink in color.
Apple-tree Rock produces large fruits. It is interesting that on the same tree the apples will have approximately the same size. On average, a fruit weighs about 250 g, and if the culture is properly cared for, you can get apples weighing about 320 g.
The fruits have a glossy skin, no wax bloom, the skin is red. The pulp has a grainy texture and a creamy white color.
How to plant and care
The amount of the harvest, as well as the size of the fruit, depends on how high-quality the care will be. No special care is required. To get a full-fledged garden with strong healthy trees, you need to choose seedlings that have the following criteria:
- developed root system;
- purchase in the region where the apple tree is planned to be grown;
- youth (optimal age - 2 years), allows you to quickly adapt to the soil composition.
Landing is possible:
- in the spring;
- summer;
- in the fall.
After purchasing seedlings, you need to decide on a place for planting, the following requirements are imposed on it:
- enough sun;
- protection from strong winds;
- the presence of drainage;
- porous soil layer;
- ideal soil - sandy loam or loamy;
- groundwater should not be located close to the surface;
- correct preparation of the landing hole.
Medium-sized trees will need pits measuring 70 × 60, if several trees are planned to be planted, a distance of at least 3 meters is maintained between them.
For 5 years after planting trees, they need to provide:
- protection from small rodents and hares (trees are tied with parchment or spruce branches);
- adding mulch to the trunks;
- hilling with soil to a height of at least 20 cm.
Trees are watered weekly during drought, with at least 2 buckets of water per plant.
