For such a melon culture as cucumbers, there will always be a place in Russian gardens. It is hard to imagine the summer dacha season without crispy green cucumbers. Recently, gardeners are increasingly practicing the cultivation of high-yielding cucumber hybrids with a bundle type of fruit formation, in some of which the Director cucumber occupies a special position.

Hybrid characteristics Director F1

Director cucumbers - Dutch selection, were registered in Russia recently, in 2013. For breeding, similar varieties were crossed, as for the creation of the famous productive hybrid Herman. It was not by chance that the new hybrid immediately became widespread on the territory of the country, this was facilitated, first of all, by the high yield of the Director and the varietal characteristics of the fruits.

Cucumber varieties Director

Cucumber Description Director:

  • Plant parameters. The Director's bushes are powerful and highly branched. The hybrid is an indeterminate - the growth of the main stem and side shoots is unlimited. Plants have a large number of medium-sized, dark green leaves.
  • Cold resistance. In the southern regions, the hybrid is grown in the open field. In zones with an unfavorable climate, for example, in the Urals, it is planted exclusively in protected ground: hotbeds and greenhouses. Cold resistance - medium.
  • Ripening terms. The director of ripening dates is medium early: only 40-45 days pass from the moment the sprouts appear to harvest.
  • Bloom, like fruiting, bunchy (bouquet), that is, several flowers are formed in one bosom at once, and not one, like in ordinary varieties. Many female flowers grow, 2-3 in each bunch. The director belongs to the group of parthenocarpic hybrids, so the flowers do not need pollination.
  • Characteristics of the fetus. Ripe fruits are small in size (9-12 cm in length and about 3 cm in diameter) and weight (65-80 g), characterized by moderate tuberosity and slight pubescence. The color of the cucumbers is emerald green with barely noticeable light stripes. The pulp is crispy, without voids, without bitterness. The seeds are small and few, the skin of the cucumbers is thin.
  • Yield The director depends on the planting site: in the greenhouse, up to 17 kg of cucumbers are harvested from one bush per season, and in the open field - up to 4 kg / m2 with official care. These figures are considered very high.
  • Disease resistance. The Director's bushes are resistant to most diseases, like many new hybrids.

Similar cucumbers - Leaf variety, description is similar to Director.

Variety Leaf

In the description of Leaf F1 cucumbers, it can be noted that they, like the Director, are ideal for canning and pickling: small in size, without voids, crispy and aromatic. They are distinguished by small tuberosity. The Leaf variety is grown outdoors and even in the northern regions, high yields of cucumbers are obtained. Its cold resistance is higher than that of the Director.

Features of growing cucumbers Director F1

In order to achieve high yields from this hybrid, it is necessary to properly plant its seeds and take care of it in a timely manner. Despite the fact that its cultivation is not considered difficult, some work will still have to be done.

Preparation of planting material

Regardless of the method of planting (seedling or sowing seeds in the ground), the planting material must be hardened to increase cold resistance and resistance to stress.This operation is especially important when planting cucumbers in open ground. To do this, during the growth of seedlings, they are taken out onto the balcony or outside for a while in different weather. The seeds are treated with one of two methods: cold or variable temperatures.

Seedling

If desired, the seeds can be soaked before sowing in the ground or for seedlings, but this is not at all necessary.

Seat preparation

In order for the yield of the hybrid to be maximized during the season, it is necessary to allocate nutritious soil for planting it. It is recommended to organize warm beds since autumn, the basis of which is compost, humus or manure, and on top - a bulk layer of earth.

Soil preparation

Landing

The timing of planting cucumbers Director depends on the warming up of the earth and air temperature. Seeds can be sown at a soil temperature of + 14 ° C. The optimum air temperature in this case should be at least + 18 ° C.

Important! If the seeds have been hardened, they can be sown in the ground heated to + 10 ° C.

The depth of sowing seeds for seedlings is 2 cm, in the ground - 3-4 cm. Therefore, the holes are made with a finger, while the seed is placed with the flat side down. The director's cucumber planting scheme in open ground provides for a distance between adjacent plants of 30 cm and a row spacing of 1 m, in a greenhouse - 30 × 50 cm.

Landing

Care

Hybrid Care Director is uncomplicated.

  • Watering mode. Better to spend in the evening. By this time, the water in the storage tank has time to warm up in the sun. The director responds well to frequent and abundant watering. The maximum yield of the hybrid is observed when organizing sprinkling - watering all parts of the bush.
  • Formation. When growing cucumbers in open ground, their formation includes only one operation - pinching the main whip after the eighth leaf. But in a greenhouse, the formation of a Director is much more difficult. In greenhouses, plants are grown in one stem and tied to a trellis. At the Director, the bushes are distinguished by their strength of growth and leafiness, therefore, during the season, they must carry out pinching (removal of fattening shoots) and thinning of the foliage in order to improve illumination.
    Important! For the Director in the greenhouse, it is necessary to grow in exactly one stem. More of them will negatively affect the yield.
  • Top dressing. The hybrid needs regular feeding. Organic or mineral substances can be used as fertilizer. Application rates and frequency are the same as for cucumbers in general. With a lack of nitrogen, the leaves of the plant may turn yellow or even wither.

Important! Top dressing should be balanced. Otherwise, due to an excess or lack of any element, the bushes get sick.

Fertilizer

Cucumbers have many enemies: pests, possible diseases that can not only damage the bushes themselves, but also spoil the harvest. The director is rarely affected by cucumber pests and diseases. Therefore, usually when growing it, preventive treatment is not required. But a periodic inspection of the planted bushes is necessary. If, during such an inspection, signs of fungal diseases (spots, rot, etc.) are noticed, all parts of the bushes are sprayed with a fungicide solution.

Advantages and disadvantages of a hybrid

Like any other cucumber, the Director hybrid has its pros and cons. The former, of course, prevail.

Director's Dutch cucumbers fell in love with Russian gardeners for:

  • fruit taste, as well as their excellent keeping quality and transportability;
  • the versatility of the use of fruits (cucumbers are great both for fresh consumption and for pickling);
  • long periods of fruiting;
  • shade tolerance;
  • resistance to stress and resistance to many diseases.

The Director has one drawback - his planting material is quite expensive, and it will not work to breed it on your own, since there is no point in collecting seeds from hybrids.But almost every gardener can afford to plant at least a couple of bushes of this super-yielding hybrid, in return it will be provided with fresh crispy cucumbers throughout the summer season, and will even remain for pickling.
