Folklore rose is a slightly forgotten variety. It was created in 1977 in Germany by Kordes Rosen. In appearance, it resembles British and Dutch cut roses, but, despite this, it belongs to hybrid tea varieties, which are characterized by long flowering (from early summer to autumn). It has a pleasant aroma and amazing growth power.
The Folklore rose does not require a large area. Even in a fairly small area, you can get strong bushes with flowers in the shades of sunset.
Description rose Folklore
In a region with a warm climate, this variety can reach up to 1.5-2.5 m in height and 1.5 m in width. As it grows, the bush takes on a spreading shape. He can live up to 15 years. The stems are covered with many sharp thorns.
Rose Folklore is distinguished by an abundance of flowering. Flower size: approximately 11-13 cm in diameter and 8-10 cm in height. The beginning of the emergence of flowers is early summer. Their abundant re-flowering is noted throughout the season in the autumn.
The glasses of this hybrid tea rose have the same shape as the English Rose varieties, for this reason it is sometimes called “English Folklore rose”, but this is a mistake. Opening, the buds release dark orange petals with double tips. They can be coral, pale salmon or fiery orange. Their color can change under the influence of different climatic conditions. Gradually they fade and acquire a salmon-pink hue.
The petals have a dense structure. They calmly endure rainfall. The leaves are large, with a glossy surface. Young leaves are of a bright crimson hue. Sometimes flowers are collected in large clusters up to 9 pieces.
How to grow a seedling yourself
If there is a desire to plant a large number of rose bushes, then you first need to grow seedlings yourself. So you can not only reduce costs, but also be sure that the seedling is really the right variety.
The cutting is pre-cut (part of the pink stem with a bud). Cut it off only after the rose has completely bloomed. This time can be determined by the condition of the thorns. In mature buds, thorns break off easily.
The middle part of the stem (about 15 cm) is taken for the cutting. The upper and lower cut is made at an angle of 45 degrees. Leave the 2 top sheets on it, and cut off the rest.
Planting
The rose is planted mainly in sunny, well-ventilated areas. This plant does not make any special claims to the composition of the soil. The main condition is for it to be loose, without stagnant water.
Folklore hybrid tea rose is planted in the ground at a time when the air temperature reaches 10-12 degrees Celsius. This is usually from late April to mid-May. Saplings should be with unblown buds or with small shoots.
In seedlings, the root system is freed from the earthy coma.Then they soak it in water, and plant it after a few hours.
A hole for planting a rose is dug to a depth of 30 to 50 cm. Before lowering into it, the roots of the rose bush are dipped in slurry. It is prepared by adding clay and manure to the water. After planting the seedling in the ground, a roller is formed around it from the soil so that irrigation water penetrates to the root system, and does not spread. In addition, the planted bush is spud up to a height of 15 cm.
Features of planting purchased seedlings
Purchased seedlings are carefully freed from the packing nets if they are not biodegradable. You should carefully examine the roots. If you suspect a manifestation of the disease, they are treated with biofungicide. Healthy roots are pruned 1-2 cm.If the roots are too long, then they are shortened to 35 cm.
At the same time, the shoots are cut off. Tied branches are released by removing thin and broken ones. Too long shoots are cut to a length of 30-35 cm, branches with 2-7 buds are left. Shoot pruning is carried out at an angle of 45 degrees.
So that the roots are saturated with liquid, they are soaked in water. The seedling is immersed to the root collar in a solution with a growth stimulator, and then in copper sulfate diluted with water.
Growing conditions
Rose Folklore can be planted both outdoors and in greenhouse conditions. The choice of the method is directly influenced by the climatic zone.
This variety is distinguished by long flowering. The shoots formed in the current year have the longest flowering period, therefore, in the spring, the obligatory pruning of last year's stems is carried out:
- In the first year of the bush's life, pruning is carried out, shortening the stems by 2-3 buds.
- In subsequent years, 5-7 buds are already cut off.
This pruning can also be done in summer. After this procedure, the plant maximizes the growth of new shoots, which has a beneficial effect on re-flowering during one season.
In the fall, pruning is carried out in the last days of October. Unopened buds left after flowering roses and leaves are also removed from the bush.
If winter is expected to be harsh, then you can build a kind of frame for the bush, and insulate it with a film on top. This will save the bush from getting wet. To prevent the wind from blowing the film, sprinkle it with soil around the edges.
Care rules and features of watering
A hybrid tea rose requires careful and regular maintenance. For normal development, the plant must be fed throughout the season. Top dressing is applied at least 1 time per month.
The composition of dressings should include phosphorus, potash and nitrogen fertilizers. This complex fertilizer provides fast growth of stems and abundant flowering.
During the period of active growth of the rose bush, nitrogen fertilizers are applied. For this, urea and nitrate are diluted with water in a proportion of 10 grams of urea and 20 grams of nitrate per 10 liters of water.
The bush reacts favorably to the alternation of mineral fertilizing with the introduction of organic fertilizers. But during the period of bud formation, only mineral fertilizing is required: 50 grams of urea, 25 grams of saltpeter and 15 grams of potassium are diluted in 10 liters of water.
At the end of the first wave of flowering, the Folklore rose again needs fertilizing with mineral fertilizers. At the same time, the amount of urea is reduced, and the amount of potassium fertilizers is increased.
An insufficient amount of moisture in the soil will affect the appearance of the bush:
- foliage may fall;
- the growth of shoots will slow down.
With highly dried soil, the varietal characteristics of the rose change:
- the color saturation of the petals decreases;
- the size of the petals decreases;
- the aromatic properties of the flower decrease.
During the period of activation of the growth of the rose bush, during budding and the formation of flowers, abundant watering is required. Usually watered once a week. In autumn and spring, roses should be watered once every 2 weeks. After watering, the soil around the bush is mulched to prevent moisture from evaporating and to avoid overheating the soil. This creates the prerequisites for accelerated growth of stems and maximum budding.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
On the positive side, the variety can be characterized as follows:
- this variety can be used both for creating bouquets and for decorating flower beds;
- Rose Folklore is easy to befit the neighboring plants.
Despite the positive characteristics of the Folklore rose, it is not considered an elite variety. Also the disadvantage is that it is susceptible to powdery mildew and does not tolerate low temperatures in winter.
The grown strong Folklore rose bush will decorate any home garden, and cut roses will allow you to enjoy fragrant flowers indoors for a long time.
